Dear Inspired Community,

Courage is nothing we are born with; it needs to be developed constantly. Courage is that mental muscle that conquers fear. Like all muscles, the more you use them the stronger they become. One of my favorite stories illustrates that beautifully:

The Fight of Two Wolves Within You

An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life:
“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.
”It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”
He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf will win?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

The good news is that everyone has the capacity for being courageous. Everyone can consciously choose which wolf s/he feeds. It’s a leadership responsibility to put courage inside of people – to encourage them. With less fear and more courage, people take on bigger challenges, deal more constructively with change, and speak up more openly about important issues. In the workplace everyone wins by showing up to work each day with more courage.

Let’s talk about how you could reduce threats in the workplace and increase courage to help people take the leap of faith and make the change for the organization to remain successful. We are as always just an email or phone call away. Contact us.
